Odisha crash out in quarters of Buchi Babu tournament

Odisha put up modest performance in the group league of the All-India Buchi Babu Invitation Cricket Tournament before losing to Mumbai by 112 runs on the second day of their two-day quarterfinal match at the SRMC ground in Chennai today. Leg-spinner Sagar Gorivale bagged six wickets for 32 runs to star in the Mumbai win.

Chasing a competitive target of 258, Odisha folded up for 145 in 51.5 overs. As many as four Odisha batsmen _ Paresh Patel, Sujit Lenka, Haladhar Das, Deepak Behera _ got good starts but only to be dismissed in their twenties. Earlier yesterday, Mumbai were all out for 257 after being asked to bat first by Odisha captain Biplab Samantaray.

In the group league, Odisha lost to Hyderabad by four wickets but thrashed Maharashtra by six wickets in the next match to qualify for the quarterfinals. Odisha pace-bowing duo of Sudipta Swain and Basant Mohanty played instrumental roles in the victory over Maharashtra.
